120 miles and 2 hours from our last stop - 1 night stay

Travelogue

We rolled into the Flying J about 8:30 refreshed from our run in Cuyahoga. I never thought I would think of a truck stop as home, but this one has become our traditional first stop on a cross country trip. It's the perfect distance from home--10 hours is a pretty good first day, it's clean and safe, and the price is right (free).

Lazy Daze camping in Flying J lotLazy Daze camping in Flying J lotAfter a quick dinner and the usual walk into the store to look at trucker nosh and buy candy, we watched some TV and called it an early night. It was a very hot night, but since there was no hookup to run the AC, we slept with the windows open. Unfortunately, the guy next to us felt it necessary to run his generator all night. I guess Tommy was getting the brunt of the fumes up in his bed over the cab. When he asked us, "How do people get black lung?" we had him close his window.

I was quite content lying there in my truck stop. The boys had been so busy lately with school and activities that we really hadn't had a chance to spend a lot of time together. Now, I had them where I wanted them--trapped in an RV with me for the next 3 weeks. Hopefully, I wouldn't regret it.

Description

Flying J's are Travel Plazas that cater to truckers and RV's. Their numerous services include gas, a dump stations, propane, fast food restaurant, limited groceries, and even showers and a barber shop. However, the best feature of all is the RV section that allows overnight parking.

They are conveniently located on most of the interstates (except for the East Coast)
